ANNOUNCEMENTS

Happy New Year 2017! The the CoaH Kids Blog posts are designed to give you an overview of what your kid(s) learned on Sunday mornings. If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to email me at mollie@coahchurch.org. 

NEW! We recently purchased new bibles for use in CoaH Kids (Pre-K - 5th grades). These bibles are produced by the same company that makes the Gospel Project, the curriculum we use in CoaH Kids. This is a great addition to our curriculum because these bibles have the same pictures, questions and weekly theme integrated in with the scriptural text . Here's a link for additional information about these new bibles. Looking for a great kids' bible to use at home?  This would be a great resource to have so you can follow along with our curriculum during the week!

Reminder: Please send your kids into CoaH Kids ready to worship. Please make sure they've eaten breakfast and have used the restroom. Do not send your child into CoaH Kids while they are actively eating a bagel (or any other food/snack). All food must be consumed before entering the theater or music room under the supervision of the child's parents. We will give a snack and have a bathroom break at some point during CoaH Kids but individual kids eating and using the bathroom during worship or the lesson is disruptive. We want everyone to be able to fully participate when they are checked into CoaH Kids. Thanks!

NURSERY

9AM Nursery: Children ages 0 -1 yrs old are welcome to come play in the nursery at this service. There is a separate class for 2 - 3 yr olds during this service. We provide cheerios for children over age 1 (unless specified by parents) and we try to spend a little bit of time reading the Bible story books. 

11AM Nursery: Children ages 0-3 yrs old are welcome to come play in the nursery at this service. We provide cheerios during Bible story reading time for children 1 yr and older!

 ***IMPORTANT*** We have severe allergies in our nursery-aged kids. Only cheerios are give as a snack to children ages 1 years+. If your child cannot have cheerios, we will make an exception but feed him/her separately from the group. If possible, please bring a labelled water cup for your child to use during the nursery. If you've forgotten a label, the check-in coordinator would be happy to print out a label for you!

 

2 - 3 YEAR OLDS

January Memory Verse: "Even the wind and water obey Him." Matthew 8:27

January Theme: Jesus is the Boss (The Wind and Water Obey Jesus from Matthew 8:23-27)

From the parent take-home page:  If you have pictures of Jesus in a Bible storybook, show them to your child. Make sure your child understands that Jesus grew up. 

Help your child understand the word "obey." For example: "Mommy says 'no'. Obey Mommy. Do what Mommy says."

Talk to your child about bosses. Then remind him that Jesus is the boss of everything. For example, “Who is the boss of this house? Who is the boss at Daddy’s work? Jesus is the boss of everything!”

Pray: Praise Jesus for being the boss of everything!

Note: The aim of this lesson is to lay the foundation for understanding the sovereignty of God. As your child is beginning to understand them, begin to use terms such as “in charge” or “in control” of everything to explain the sovereignty of God. 

PRE-K - 5TH GRADE

This Week's Story is from: Luke 24:36-43; John 20:19-29; and Acts 1:3

Memory Verse: Matthew 28: 19-20 "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold,  I am with you always, to the end of the age."

Summary: This week in The Gospel Project® for Kids, our journey takes us to Jesus’ appearance to the disciples. Perhaps one of the most gracious things Jesus did after His resurrection was appear to the disciples, proving He was alive. The disciples were devastated to see that Jesus had died. How could He save them if He was dead? Even though Jesus had foretold His death and resurrection (Matt. 20:17-19), Jesus’ disciples believed by seeing.

Jesus showed the disciples His hands and His side to prove He was not a ghost. He had a real, physical body. Then He spoke to them: “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21). This verse contains the Gospel of John’s version of the Great Commission. Jesus, the One sent from the Father, was now sending the disciples to be His messengers and representatives. Jesus equipped the disciples with the Holy Spirit to proclaim the gospel.

Thomas, who was not with the disciples when Jesus came, had a hard time believing that they saw Him. Thomas wanted physical proof—and that is just what He got! Jesus showed Thomas His hands and His side. Thomas immediately believed.

Jesus’ resurrection proved that God was satisfied with Jesus’ blood sacrifice for sins and that God’s new covenant had begun. In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul addressed how the resurrection is essential to the gospel. In verse 17, Paul writes, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.”

Christ Connection: If Christ had remained dead, His death would have meant nothing more than yours or mine. Humanity would still be without hope. Jesus’ resurrection gives us hope that we one day too will be raised and changed.  God gives us victory over death through Jesus.  Emphasize to the kids you teach that Jesus is alive! Share with them that they have a special purpose: to tell others that Jesus is alive. He is reigning as King today over all of creation.

Family Activity Suggestion: Provide a bag of dried beans and a bucket. Guide kids to pour what they think is 500 beans onto the table. Help kids count the beans after they have poured them, collecting all the beans in the bucket. Explain that Jesus appeared to more than 500 people after He rose from the dead. Ask kids if they would believe something that 500 different people told them had happened. Review Luke 24:36-43. We know that Jesus is alive today!

Younger Kids

• Did Jesus’ friends believe that Jesus was really alive when they first saw Him? (No, they thought He was a ghost)
• Why did Jesus show His friends His hands and His side? (So they would know He was really Jesus!)
• How did Jesus’ friends feel when they realized that Jesus is alive? (They were so happy that they praised God.
• What did Jesus ask His friends to do? (Jesus asked His friends to tell people that He is alive)
• Big Picture Question: What did Jesus do after He was raised from the dead? Jesus showed many people that He was alive, and He is alive today.

Older Kids

• Why were the disciples gathered together in a house? (They were afraid of the Jews, John 20:19)
• What did Jesus say when He appeared in the room? (Peace to you, Luke 24:36)
• Who doubted that Jesus was alive? (Thomas, John 20:24-25)
• Who did Jesus say is blessed? (those who believe in Him without seeing Him, John 20:29)
• Big Picture Question: What did Jesus do after He was raised from the dead? Jesus appeared to many people as proof that God had raised Jesus from the dead, and He is still alive today.
