This week in CoaH Kids

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Reminder: Please send your kids into CoaH Kids ready to worship. Please make sure they've eaten breakfast and have used the restroom. Do not send your child into CoaH Kids while they are actively eating a bagel (or any other food/snack). All food must be consumed before entering the theater or music room under the supervision of the child's parents. We will give a snack and have a bathroom break at some point during CoaH Kids but individual kids eating and using the bathroom during worship or the lesson is disruptive. We want everyone to be able to fully participate when they are checked into CoaH Kids. Thanks!

NEW! In the Pre-K -5th grade section of the blog, there is a suggestion for a family activity related to the lesson. This would be a great jumping off point to talk about the lesson from Sunday. 

Family Worship Sunday: Mark your calendars, our next Family Worship Sunday is October 30th at the 11am service. Many of our church families will be at the CoaH Retreat so there is only one service this Sunday.  On Family Worship Sundays your kids (Pre-K through 5th grade) will be taking a break from their regular CoaH Kids curriculum and joining everyone in the larger gathering for worship.  Read about Family Worship Sunday here.

NURSERY

9AM Nursery: Children ages 0 -1 yrs old are welcome to come play in the nursery at this service. There is a separate class for 2 - 3 yr olds during this service. We provide cheerios for children over age 1 (unless specified by parents) and we try to spend a little bit of time reading the Bible story books. 

11AM Nursery: Children ages 0-3 yrs old are welcome to come play in the nursery at this service. We provide cheerios during Bible story reading time for children 1 yr and older!

Please bring a labelled water cup for your child to use during the nursery. If you've forgotten a label, the check-in coordinator would be happy to print out a label for you!

 ***IMPORTANT*** We have severe allergies in our nursery-aged kids. Only cheerios are give as a snack to children ages 1 years+. If your child cannot have cheerios, we will make an exception but feed him/her separately from the group. 

 

2 - 3 YEAR OLDS

October Theme: Only God is Big - a story about sin in the garden from Genesis 3

From the parent take-home page: Remind your children that God said, "No. Do not eat this fruit." But the man and the woman ate the fruit. They did not obey God.

When you tell your child "no" and your child disobeys, make sure that your child understands that this is wrong. 

Ask your child, "Can you make a tree?" Then say "No, only God can make a tree."  

Throughout the week make statements like "Only God is sooooo big" or "Only God is sooooo strong." Then thank God that He is so big! (A Sure Foundation, 2005)

 

PRE-K - 5TH GRADE

This Week's Story: Matthew 21:1-17; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-19

Memory Verse: Romans 10:9 "...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Summary: Thank you for continuing this journey of The Gospel Project® for Kids. Today’s Bible story focuses on The Triumphal Entry. The Sunday before Easter is Palm Sunday—the day Jesus entered Jerusalem as the King of kings the week before Passover. Many of God’s people traveled to Jerusalem for Passover. Jesus and His disciples traveled to Jerusalem as well. Near Bethphage (BETH fayj) and Bethany near the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples ahead into a village. Jesus told them, “You will find a young donkey tied there. No one has ever sat on it. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone says to you ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’” Jesus was going to fulfill a prophecy by the prophet Zechariah that said, “Look, your King is coming to you, gentle, and mounted on a donkey.” (Zech. 9:9)

Jesus made a spectacular entrance into the city. He rode a donkey, and people laid branches and their robes on the ground in front of Him. The people welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem believed He was the promised Messiah, but they expected Him to overthrow Roman oppression and set up an earthly throne. Jesus sent a different message.

Jesus entered the temple and turned over the tables of the moneychangers and those selling doves. Read Isaiah 56:6-7. Jesus referred to Isaiah, declaring that His kingship would not just be over the Jews but over all people. While Jesus was in the temple, He healed the blind and the lame. Check out the words of Isaiah 35:4-6. Jesus’ actions declared, “I am not just your King; I am also your God.”

Finally, the priests and the scribes heard the children worshiping Jesus as their King. “Do You hear what these children are saying?” they asked. Jesus replied, quoting Psalm 8:2: “Have you never read: You have prepared praise from the mouths of children and nursing infants?” Jesus gladly received their praise because He was worthy of their praise.

Christ Connection: During Jesus' triumphal entry, the people welcomed Him as King. Jesus was the Messiah spoken about by the prophet Zechariah: "Look your King is coming to you; He is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey." (Zechariah 9:9)

Family Activity Suggestion: Conduct a parade through your home. Allow one child to march around while other family members wave their arms and show excitement as he marches by. Read Luke 19:28-44 and remind kids that people welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem as King! Talk about ways that others can see that Jesus is King in your life.
