The the CoaH Kids Blog posts are designed to give you an overview of what your kid(s) learned on Sunday mornings. If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to email me at mollie@coahchurch.org. 

Kids Worship: New date! April 16th - Once a month we are going to ask that you take your children into the larger gathering and sing together as a family after you've checked them into CoaH Kids. Then they will be dismissed with their teachers for the regular CoaH Kids program. 

Easter Sunday: Please join us for Easter Sunday worship at Brookline High School. There will be a children's ministry for your kids nursery through 3rd grade. The 4th - 6th graders will worship with their families in the larger gathering. Please feel free to invite your friends!

PRE-K - 5TH GRADE

This Week's Story is from: Acts 15:36 - 16:40 

Memory Verse: Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes..."

Summary: Thank you for continuing this journey of The Gospel Project® for Kids. Today’s Bible story focuses on Paul’s second missionary journey that he took to follow up with churches he had planted on his first journey. Paul wanted to see how the new believers were doing. Paul and his companion Silas traveled through Syria and Cilicia, encouraging believers and strengthening churches. The numbers of believers in the churches increased daily.

One night, while Paul and Silas were in Troas, the Lord called Paul to go to Macedonia and preach the gospel to the people. So Paul and Silas obeyed. They sailed to Macedonia, staying in the city of Philippi for several days.

Two major events happened while Paul was in Macedonia. First, a woman named Lydia became a believer. God opened Lydia’s heart to the good news of the gospel. She believed and was baptized. Then she invited Paul and Silas to stay at her house.

Then, Paul and Silas were thrown into prison after Paul commanded a fortune-telling spirit to come out of a slave girl. Late at night, an earthquake rocked the prison, flung open the doors, and shucked off the shackles. The prisoners could have jumped up and escaped, but they stayed where they were. The jailer asked Paul and Silas how to be saved. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved,” they said. The man believed and was baptized.

Christ Connection: Lydia, the jailer, and many others were saved because they believed in Jesus. Jesus offers us salvation as a gift. He did all the work to save us by dying on the cross. We do not need to earn salvation; we can just receive it by repenting and trusting in Jesus.

Family Activity: Hold an impromptu scavenger hunt. Invite family members to search the house for something purple and bring it to the group. Read Acts 16:9-15. Paul told Lydia, a woman who sold purple cloth, about Jesus. Lydia and everyone in her household trusted in Jesus. Think of someone who has not trusted in Jesus as Savior and pray for the opportunity to share the gospel.

Review Questions for Pre-K – Kindergarteners:

• What was the woman’s name who believed what Paul said about Jesus? (Lydia)
• Did anyone else in Lydia’s family believe what Paul said about Jesus? (yes, everyone in her house)
• What happened to Paul and Silas because they helped the servant girl with the spirit? (Paul and Silas were put in jail)
• What happened when Paul and Silas were praying and singing songs to God in jail? (an earthquake came and shook the jail)
• What did the jailer ask Paul and Silas? (“What must I do to be saved?”)
• Big Picture Question: What did Paul and his friends teach as they traveled? Paul and his friends taught about Jesus.

Review Questions for 1st - 3rd Graders

• What did God call Paul to do in the vision? (go to Macedonia, Acts 16:9-10)
• What did Paul do that made someone very mad? (cast out an evil spirit from a girl who told fortunes, Acts 16:18)
• What happened to Paul and Silas as a result of casting out the evil spirit? (The girl’s owner had them thrown in jail, Acts 16:23)
• What did the jailer ask Paul and Silas after the earthquake? (“what must I do to be saved?”)
• How did Paul and Barnabas respond to the jailer asking what must he do to be saved? (They said “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31)
• In our story, who began to trust Jesus because the Holy Spirit used Paul in their lives? (Lydia and her household, the jailer and his household, and many others, Acts 16:14-15, 30-33)
• Big Picture Question: What did Paul do as he traveled? Paul started churches in other cities and taught people about Jesus.

Review Questions for 4th – 6th Graders

• Why did Paul and Silas go to the river? (to pray, Acts, 16:13)
• What was the name of the woman at the river? (Lydia, Acts 16:14)
• What happened to Lydia and her household? (They were baptized, Acts 16:15)
• How did the servant girl make money for her owners? (by telling the future, Acts 16:16)
• What did the servant girl say about Paul and Silas? (“These men are servants of the Most High God!”, Acts 16:17)
• What did the girl’s owners do to Paul and Silas? (dragged them to the authorities, Acts 16:19)
• What were Paul and Silas doing while in prision? (praying and singing to God, Acts 16:25)
• What caused the prison doors to open and the prisoners’ chains to come loose? (an earthquake, Acts 16:26)
• What did Paul and Silas say the jailer needed to be saved? (“Believe in the Lord Jesus”, Acts 16:31)
• Big Picture Question: What did Paul do as he traveled? Paul started churches in other cities and taught people about Jesus.

 

2 - 3 YEAR OLDS

April Memory Verse: "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24

April Theme: Jesus died and is alive again (John 19:16b-20:31)

From the parent take-home page:  Show pictures of Jesus on the cross. Talk about Him, being sad because Jesus is on the cross. Tell your child that Jesus had many owies and then Jesus couldn’t move or talk. Then tell your child that Jesus came back! Jesus could move and talk again. Jesus is alive.

Throughout the day, point out to your child things that are alive and things that are not alive. (You may want to stay with the simplest meaning possible. For example, “the dog can walk. The dog can lick my face. The dog is alive. The table can’t walk. The table is not alive.”)

Pray: Thanks Jesus for coming back. Praise Jesus that He is alive.

NURSERY

9AM Nursery: Children ages 0-1 year old are welcome to come play in the nursery at this service. There is a separate ministry for 2 - 3 year olds during this service. We provide cheerios for children over age 1 (unless specified by parents) and we try to spend a little bit of time reading the Bible story books. 

11AM Nursery: Children ages 0-3 years old are welcome to come play in the nursery at this service. We provide cheerios during Bible story reading time for children 1 year and older!

 ***IMPORTANT*** We have severe allergies in our nursery-aged kids. Only cheerios are give as a snack to children ages 1 years+. If your child cannot have cheerios, we will make an exception but feed him/her separately from the group. If possible, please bring a labelled water cup for your child to use during the nursery. If you've forgotten a label, the check-in coordinator would be happy to print out a label for you!
