Summertime in the City

Summer is a great time to unplug, get out of the city, hang out with friends, and take vacations. Those are all important, but summer is also a great time to connect with our neighbors and serve our city. For the last few years City on a Hill has been doing the Summer Neighborhood Initiative as a way to engage our community. Here’s a snapshot of the opportunities this summer:

4th annual Love Life Run/Walk on Saturday, June 10th at the Chestnut Hill Reservoir. The event will benefit the Boston Center for Pregnancy Choices (CoaH supports BCPC), and you can register to run, walk, fundraise, or sponsor someone for the 5K, 10K, or Kids 1K Fun Run at www.lovelife5k.org.

Summer Movie Nights in the Park in July - CoaH is working with the Brookline Parks Department again to co-sponsor family movie nights at Waldstein Park on Friday nights in July. Keep your eyes out for details but pray and plan now to attend, bring family/friends, and engage with those who sit near you.

Kids Summer Adventure - July 24-28, 9-12:30 each day - We will connect with children all over our community. Maybe you can serve and/or invite your friends/neighbors to bring their kids to KSA. All of us can take that week to pray for the children and leaders.

Party in the Park in August - The final details are being worked out now but you can begin to pray for this event and the families that will participate.

The BIG Move (6th Annual) - On September 1 everybody in Boston moves (or at least it feels like it). Here’s our chance to use a vacation day from work to do a home mission trip (and enjoy an extra long weekend!). We go out with our community groups to serve our new neighbors and volunteer to help them move their stuff.

It’s a full summer for CoaH! Very few of us, if any, can participate in the whole Summer Neighborhood Initiative but we can all serve in some way. Jesus once said, “For even the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45). We serve our community because Jesus has served us first. How will you make an impact and serve this summer?
