The Eternal Impact of Children's Ministry

As we wrap up Kids' Summer Adventure this week, I am reminded of how I came to know the Lord: through faithful saints ministering to me as a child in the local church.

I don't remember a lot about Old Cutler Presbyterian Church in the 1980's. What I do remember was sitting in yellow plastic chairs with dozens of other kids, singing songs led by a middle-aged man on a tiny guitar or ukulele, and enjoying it. We are often drawn to tasks and endeavors which seem "bigger" and "adult". In a church, people often desire opportunities in leadership which allow them to serve others in meaningful ways. What we sometimes miss is that we are primarily focusing on our peers, and in the shuffle we forget that we have a duty to the next generation of believers. Some of the most important things you do will be the bearing of faithful Christian witness to the children in our midst!

Let's praise God for those who volunteered for Kids' Summer Adventure this week, but let us also remember that the Lord is calling each of us to love these children with the love He has had for us. Spend time with our children. Love them. Serve them.

"And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward." - Matthew 10:42
